Catalog Course Description: Covers concepts related to the application of management skills to Emergency Medical Services.  Focuses on the common problems that occur in the work setting utilizing a problem solving approach.
   
Purpose of the Course: To develop within each student an understanding of the basic principles of supervision and management.  Specifically, each student will develop an understanding of the application of these concepts to EMS Providers.
   
Required Texts: Mosby's Paramedic Textbook, 2nd Edition

Objectives: At the end of this course, the student shall, with at least 70% accuracy, discuss the application of management principles in the following areas:
  1. Ambulance Operations
  2. Medical Incident Command
  3. Hazardous Materials Incidents
  4. Crime Scene Awareness
  5. Rural EMS
  6. Assessment-Based Management
   
Methods of Instruction: 1.  Bulletin board discussions

2.  Internet presentations of specific topical areas

   
Evaluation: Written discussion of the topical areas.
   
Grading Scale: 90-100% = A

80-89% = B

70-79% = C

Below 70% = F

Students must pass with a C or higher for successful completion.

   
Attendance: ATTENDANCE/CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS: Attendance in an online course is defined by correspondence as required by the instructor. One contact per week is the minimum requirement. Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement will be awarded a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence.  Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication. It is the student's responsibility to check his/her email regularly. The instructor strongly encourages communication via e-mail, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible concerning the difficulty you are having with the assignment.
