PREREQUISITES: MAT 102 (Intermediate Algebra) with a grade of C or better or satisfactory ASSET, COMPASS, or SAT scores.
CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course includes the following topics: introductory probability and statistics, including organization of data, sample space concepts, random variables, counting problems, binomial and normal distributions, central limit theorem, confidence intervals, and test hypothesis for large and small samples; type I and II errors; linear regression; and correlation.

This will include the Student Solutions Manual, Technology Manual, Lecture Series CD-ROM (must have Quick Time to play - can download free from www.quicktime.com), PH Math Tutor access number, and Minitab software. Even though we will not use the Minitab Software in MAT 120, you will need to secure it if you plan on taking MAT 220 - Advanced Statistics at Greenville Technical College. ISBN: 0131890824 for the entire bundle and can be purchased at the Greenville Technical College bookstore. The TI-83 or TI-84 graphical calculator series is required. The e-book may be purchased on line through My Stat Lab. However the ! e-book will not contain the answers to the problems, or the minitab software if you plan to take MAT 220. TRIPS TO CAMPUS REQUIRED: 5 ACCESS CODE REQUIRED: No ORIENTATION INFORMATION: There is no on campus orientation INSTRUCTOR: Diana Asm INSTRUCTOR E-MAIL: diana.asmus@gvltec.edu INSTRUCTOR'S NOTE: All tests will be given at the Distance Education Testing Center on the Greenville Tech Barton campus. The Distance Education Testing Center is located in the DE building auditorium (building 112). The Testing Center is open from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday. Note that testing is no longer offered at the remote campuses. If you live outside the Greenville metro area, you must work with the Distance Learning Testing Center staff to arrange a proctored testing setting. It is the responsibility of the student to secure a proctor near the student's home. Qualified proctors include any authorized employees of a community college or university, such as testing proctors, instructors, professors, and counselors. Friends! , relatives, employers or students MAY NOT be a proctor! . There may be a fee associated with the administration of tests by a proctor. Once the proctor has been secured, contact the Testing Center DistEdTestCtr@gvltec.edu or 864-250-8020, for paperwork to be mailed for the proctor to complete and return. No tests will be mailed to proctors until all paperwork has been completed and returned. Tests will consist mainly of problems to be worked out by hand (not multiple choice). All testing will be in the testing center on the Barton campus with paper and pencil. DISTANCE LEARNING ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to avoid access denied status, students should make contact with their instructor within the first three days of class. Attendance in an online class is defined by correspondence and the student is expected to demonstrate, at least once a week, that he/she is actively involved and is corresponding in the class. Examples of activities that can be used to demonstrate this involvement include, but not limited to the following: posting/receiving e-mails, participating in online course discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms, and completing and submitting course assignments. Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement may be withdrawn with a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence. Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible when communicating and it is the student's responsibility to check all virtual correspondence (email, bulletin board) regularly.
