PREREQUISITES: CPT 101 (must be completed within the last five years or validated via examination) Note: You are responsible for the concepts in CPT 101 for the current version for each of the software applications Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. You may need to review the various software applications prior to each unit. There will be no review of the CPT 101 concepts in this course.
CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course emphasizes the integration of popular microcomputer software packages using advanced concepts in microcomputer applications software.
SYLLABUS: REQUIRED TEXT: 1. MS Office 2003 Advanced Concepts and Techniques, 2003; Shelly, Cashman, and Vermaat; Course Technology; ISBN: 978-0-619-20025-1 SAM_2003/Version 3.1 (can be purchased through the GTC Bookstore) 2. A USB portable storage device such as a flash drive will be needed for coursework storage. 3. All students must access CampusCruiser regarding final course grades/transcripts, information postings, financial records, etc. Students in traditional classes must access CampusCruiser for postings regarding assignments, grades, and e-mail. Students in online classes must access WebCT for specific course information regarding assignments and due dates, test dates, and e-mail correspondence; online courses require weekly participation. When purchasing your software, be careful to make sure that it contains the four products used in this course, i.e., Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. DISTANCE LEARNING ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to avoid access denied status, students should make contact with their instructor within the first three days of class. Attendance in an online class is defined by correspondence and the student is expected to demonstrate, at least once a week, that he/she is actively involved and is corresponding in the class. Examples of activities that can be used to demonstrate this involvement include, but not limited to the following: posting/receiving e-mails, participating in online course discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms, and completing and submitting course assignments. Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement may be withdrawn with a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence. Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible when communicating and it is the student's responsibility to check all virtual correspondence (email, bulletin board) regularly.
