CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers processing information in the electronic office. Emphasis is on increasing proficiency in performing a variety of office tasks. Note: Microsoft Windows and Outlook are covered. Course is taught via College Online only.

REQUIRED TEXT: 1. Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2 version): Steven M. Johnson; Course Technology; ISBN: 1-4188-6041-7 2. Microsoft Outlook 2007 Introductory: Denise Seguin; Paradigm Publishing Inc; ISBN: 9780763830168 3. A USB (Universal Serial Bus) device for the storage of coursework. 4. Microsoft Office 2007 Suite If you do not have the required software, designated computers for this class coursework are only available in the Business Division Student Lab (Engineering Technology Building 103, Room 115) with an assigned student number issued by the instructor. 5. Windows XP operating system. 6. All students must access CampusCruiser regarding final course grades/transcripts, information postings, financial records, etc. Students in traditional classes must access CampusCruiser for postings regarding assignments, grades, and e-mail. Students in online classes must access WebCT for specific course information regarding assignments and due dates, test dates, and e-mail correspondence; online courses require weekly participation.

DISTANCE LEARNING ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to avoid access denied status, students should make contact with their instructor within the first three days of class. Attendance in an online class is defined by correspondence and the student is expected to demonstrate, at least once a week, that he/she is actively involved and is corresponding in the class. Examples of activities that can be used to demonstrate this involvement include, but not limited to the following: posting/receiving e-mails, participating in online course discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms, and completing and submitting course assignments.

Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement may be withdrawn with a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence. Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible when communicating and it is the student's responsibility to check all virtual correspondence (email, bulletin board) regularly. College Online strongly encourages communication with your instructor.
