Course Title: Advanced Internship Experience II
Semester Credit Hours: 3
Prerequisite: EMS 254
Purpose of the Course: To provide certified paramedics an opportunity
to advance their education in the field setting in conjunction with research.
Required Text: Understanding Terrorism and Managing the
Consequences, Paul M. Maniscalco, Pearson Education., 2002.
Objectives:
- To increase the paramedic's understanding of the problems associated with
terrorism and how it affects paramedics in handling such situations.
- To develop a working knowledge of the basic concepts of the incident
command system.
- The paramedic will learn to understand the importance of developing
response procedures to such events before they happen.
- Become familiar with Weapons of Mass Effect and some of the different
aspects that must be considered by responding personnel.
- The paramedic will get an overview of the basics of emergency
decontamination.
- The paramedic will increase their knowledge base as to what resources are
currently in place at the local and state level to respond to situations
through site visits and research.

- **Note that successful completion of course is achieving a "C"
or higher. Any assignment not turned in by assigned due dates will
automatically receive a full letter grade drop on work submitted. This
course is based around complete and thorough research and college length
research papers are necessary to get all points that are possible for each
assignment.
Attendance: Class attendance will be based on the completion of
each section of this course prior to its due date and submission to instructor
for grading.
