Course Title: Advanced Internship Experience I

Semester Credit Hours:  3

Prerequisite:  None

Catalog Course Description:

Purpose of the Course:  To provide certified paramedics an opportunity to advance their education in the field setting in conjunction with research.

Required Text:  None

Objectives:

          1.     Review current Advanced Directives common in student’s state

of residency.

          2.     Gain an understanding of how local and state organizations have

                addressed prehospital providers in these documents

                 and requirements of prehospital providers under state law.  

3.     Become familiar with other sections of the medical community

as to the guidelines that are set forth for them to gain a better

understanding of their requirements regarding Advanced

Directives.

          4.     Develop a public information program for distribution of

what exactly is required in the student’s state of origin

regarding the needs of the EMS community to comply

when possible with the terminally ill patient’s wishes.

 

Methods of Instruction:

          1.     Online discussions on bulletin board

          2.     Online research

 

Evaluation:  The final grade will be derived from the total of the following areas:

          1.  Involvement in bulletin board discussions                      10%

         

          2.  Public Information Presentation                                    25%

 

          3.  Research Paper and Summary Report                             65%

 

               Total                                                                            100%

 

Grading Scale:

          90-100=A

          80-89=B

          70-79=C

          60-69=D

          Below 60=F

 

          **Note that successful completion of the course is achieving a "C"    or higher.

 

Attendance:  Class attendance will be based on the completion of the sections of the course and submission for review by WebCT on or before the dates listed on calendar.
