EMS 253 Advanced Clinical Experience II Syllabus Greenville Technical College Advanced Placement Program Course Number: EMS 253 Course Title: Advanced Clinical Experience II Semester Credit Hours: 3 Prerequisite: 252 Purpose of the Course: To provide certified paramedics an opportunity to advance their education in the field setting in conjunction with research. Required Text: None Objectives: The paramedic will research the QA process and it's development and compare this to CQI programs and make an argument as to which is more beneficial to the prehospital profession. The paramedic will develop a functional QA/CQI tool that includes all of the following: 1. Easy to follow format with a rating scale included. 2. Follow up criteria 3. When should intervention be required: · At administrative level · At medical control level · At State EMS office level The paramedic will discuss QA tools for skills assessment and compare field QA and classroom QA and list what can be learned from both and which is best for each specific skill. The paramedic will review all aspects of a service's operation to look at areas not normally included in the review process and develop a guideline for implementation programs in the following areas: 1. Dispatch 2. Billing 3. Customer Service The paramedic will develop a complete QA process for their individual service from the ground up. The new program will be tested for effectiveness in reviewing the following areas: ▪ Paperwork completion ▪ Compliance with standing orders ▪ Compliance with state standards ▪ Complete and accurate documentation of patient assessment ▪ Patient treatment and post treatment evaluation with easy understanding of the effects of prehospital treatment Methods of instruction: ▪ Online discussions on bulletin board ▪ Online research ▪ Research Papers Evaluations: 1. Involvement in group discussions 10% 2. Research Papers 50% 3. QA program development 40% Grading Scale: 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D Below 60 F **Note that successful completion of course is achieving a "C" or higher. Any assignment not turned in by assigned due date will automatically receive a full grade drop on work. This course is based around complete and thorough research and college length research papers are necessary to get all points that are possible for each assignment.
