Three major projects are assigned through the semester and will weigh equally on their grades.  Students will also be graded on involvement in group discussions.

     3 Research Projects (30% each)    = 90%

       Group Discussion Involvement                                       = 10%

V.          GRADING SCALE

Grading scale is as follows:

90 - 100     = A

80 - 89       = B

             70 - 79       = C

60 - 69       = D

Below 60   = F

·        Note that successful completion of the course is achieving a “C” or higher.

VI.     COURSE POLICIES

A.     Attendance

Regular attendance at scheduled classes and lab sessions is necessary for the student to attain success in the pursuit of their studies.  If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to obtain the notes, handouts, announcements, changes (including test dates), etc. that occurred on that day.  Two consecutive absences will result in a student/advisor conference.  Tardiness should be avoided.  Three tardies count as an absence.  Missed material is the responsibility of the student, and unannounced quizzes will not be made up.  Effective winter 1989; Greenville Technical College adopted an attendance policy which states that, “a student may be administratively withdrawn if he/she misses more than 10 percent of the contact hours of a given course without notifying the instructor regarding the reasons for absences prior to exceeding the 10 percent limit.” This policy is in addition to the attendance policy enforced by DHEC, which states the EMT student may not continue in the training program when the 10% maximum limit is met. The EMT department WILL administratively withdraw a student for exceeding the 10 percent limit without proper notification and prior permission of the faculty. This withdrawal will result in the student receiving a grade of “FA” or an “F” base on attendance issues. The student receiving an “FA” will not be eligible for refund of tuition costs and will show on the college transcript as an “F”.

B.     Tests

Major tests will be given per the course calendar unless changes are announced at least one week prior.  “Pop” quizzes and homework assignments are given unannounced at the discretion of the instructor and may not be made up.  Students must not be absent from announced tests without making prior arrangements with the faculty.  If this is not possible, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor by phone to make alternative arrangements.  A message may be left with the EMT department at 250-8093.  Make-up exams are given at the convenience of the instructor. The instructor may use any format for the make-up exam. Scores on a make-up exam will be dropped one full grade with the highest possible score being an “89”.  Absences from two or more exams will be closely scrutinized.  The instructor may excuse the student from the make-up exam with a corresponding increase in the weight of the final exam.  The final exam will not be excused.

FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE ABOVE PROCEDURE OR AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE ON A TEST DAY WILL RESULT IN A “ZERO” BEING ASSIGNED ON THAT MATERIAL

2.         Adherence to regulations, rules, and conduct as stated in the Greenville Technical College Student Handbook is expected.

             D.    Health Science Division Drug Policy

Consistent with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989, it is the policy of Greenville Technical College that all students and employees be committed to creating and maintaining a drug free environment.  Use of substances which interfere with the judgment and/or motor coordination of students in the health field pose unacceptable risk for patients, health care agencies, and the faculty of the College.  Student conduct should be in conformity with the high moral and ethical standards of a health professional, as well as within the legal constraints of any law-abiding community.  Students are strictly prohibited from being under the influence of alcohol or any other drug while engaged in any portion of their formal educational experience.

             E.    Computer Use

Computers are made available to EMT Department students for research and documentation purposes. Internet access is available and monitored by the college.
