CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course examines the theory of operating systems and how the operating system theory is implemented in current operating systems.

REQUIRED TEXT: A+ Guide to Software: Managing, Maintaining, and Troubleshooting; Third Edition, Enhanced; Jean Andrews, Ph.D.; Course Technology, ISBN: 1-418835609 All students must access CampusCruiser regarding final course grades/transcripts, information postings, financial records, etc. Students in traditional classes must access CampusCruiser for postings regarding assignments, grades, and e-mail. Students in online classes must access WebCT for specific course information regarding assignments and due dates, test dates, and e-mail correspondence; online courses require weekly participation. TRIPS TO CAMPUS REQUIRED: 5 ACCESS CODE REQUIRED: No ORIENTATION INFORMATION: Orientation in online in the class. INSTRUCTOR: Beau Sanders INSTRUCTOR E-MAIL: Beau.Sanders@gvltec.edu INSTRUCTOR'S NOTE: SPECIAL NOTE FOR ALL STUDENTS: Online students will be REQUIRED to come to the Barton Campus to complete hands-on labs. The number of required on-campus meetings will vary from class to class. Students should plan on at least 3 to 4 meetings. Online students will be required to complete the labs to satisfactorily complete the course. Also, the final examination for online students will be administered on the Barton Campus. The final examination will be scheduled at a time determined by the administration. Refer to the syllabus for complete details. DISTANCE LEARNING ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to avoid access denied status, students should make contact with their instructor within the first three days of class. Attendance in an online class is defined by correspondence and the student is expected to demonstrate, at least once a week, that he/she is actively involved and is corresponding in the class. Examples of activities that can be used to demonstrate this involvement include, but not limited to the following: posting/receiving e-mails, participating in online course discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms, and completing and submitting course assignments. Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement may be withdrawn with a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence. Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible when communicating and it is the student's responsibility to check all virtual correspondence (email, bulletin board) regularly.
