CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a study of Active Server Pager (ASP) programming to build, implement, and execute ASP scripts. Examines topics related to the syntax of server-side ASP scripting as well as the use of ASP with databases.

SYLLABUS:

REQUIRED TEXT: 1.Introduction to ASP.NET 3rd ed.; Kathleen Kalata; Course Technology; ISBN: 978-1-4188-3765-5 2.Data Files which can be downloaded from the site http://www.course.com/catalog/downloads.cfm. Type the texts ISBN number in the search box, and when the text is found, click on Student Downloads. 3.Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2005 Professional, or Visual Web Developer Express will be used for this course to develop ASP.NET 2.0 forms. It is mandatory that the student have access to Visual Studio.NET 2005 at home or by using the software available in the CPT open lab. 4.A USB portable storage device such as a flash drive will be needed for coursework storage. 5.All students must access CampusCruiser regarding final course grades/transcripts, information postings, financial records, etc. Students in traditional classes must access CampusCruiser for postings regarding assignments, grades, and e-mail. Students in online classes must access WebCT for specific course information regarding assignments and due dates, test dates, and e-mail correspondence; online courses require weekly participation.

INSTRUCTOR'S NOTE: Students who have completed the VB courses and wish to have a basic understanding of Web applications and Web servers and desire to learn to create active server pages to solve everyday business problems. Students will be required to come to campus to take the final exam. Exam dates and times will be posted. They will be required to bring a picture ID with them to confirm their identity.

DISTANCE LEARNING ATTENDANCE POLICY: In order to avoid access denied status, students should make contact with their instructor within the first three days of class. Attendance in an online class is defined by correspondence and the student is expected to demonstrate, at least once a week, that he/she is actively involved and is corresponding in the class. Examples of activities that can be used to demonstrate this involvement include, but not limited to the following: posting/receiving e-mails, participating in online course discussions via bulletin boards and chat rooms, and completing and submitting course assignments.

Students not meeting the minimum attendance/correspondence requirement may be withdrawn with a grade of "W" or "WF" based upon the student's academic standing at the last date of attendance/correspondence. Email through WebCT will be the primary means of communication, especially when the student is having difficulty answering a question or solving an exercise or a problem. For your instructor to help you effectively, please provide as much information as possible when communicating and it is the student's responsibility to check all virtual correspondence (email, bulletin board) regularly.
