Take this assessment test to see if Online Learning is the correct mode for you!
Explanations
The ten questions in the self-test reflect some of the facts about taking Web-based courses.
Online education courses use technology for teaching and communication.
The most important skill an online learner can have is to become an independent thinker.
Procrastination causes the downfall of many online students. You must work on and meet due date assignments without the instructor's calling or e-mailing you, or having a face-to-face conference.
Many of the classes expect the online learner to be organized and perform multiple tasks to complete lessons. Managing time (i.e. school work, family, and job) and having the ability to pull information from multiple sources are important for online learning.
Online courses enable you to work independently . Some students prefer the independence of online-based courses; others find it uncomfortable.
Online courses demand AT LEAST as much time from you as on-campus courses do. Prepare to spend 8-12 hours a week per course (if applicable). Typically, successful students spend more time--not less--to complete their courses.
Just as in on-campus courses, the online learner must begin class on the first day. However, online courses require you primarily to work from textural directions (either on paper or the computer) without face-to-face instructions. Instructors are generally available during their office hours for phone consultation and clarification, or you can email them within your course.
Techniques for submitting assignments include e-mail with documents as attachment, postal mail ( it may take two weeks to get comments back from your instructor), or hand-delivery to the instructor.
Some people learn best by interacting with other students and instructors. Web-based courses provide interaction, but you must proactively participate in the communication forums, such as Chat and the Discussion Board. You must be regular about checking your email and responding to messages--most instructors expect you to check into class multiple times a week..
Some online courses require some on-campus work: orientations, face-to-face presentations, review sessions, exams, labs. Student schedule flexibility is important. Please be sure to check the Course Schedule page at the college-online website for details. |
